BACKGROUND: Although E.ON is a leading power and gas supplier, employing around 12,000 people in the UK and more than 79,000 worldwide, E.ON is an organization that is keen to use energy efficient solutions to support the way in which its own operations are run.
CHALLENGE: A recent UK initiative that E.ON undertook aimed to replace its existing lighting systems with the most appropriate energy efficient alternatives with an initial trial at its Technology Centre in Nottinghamshire.
SOLUTION: As part of this project, six Solatube 330 DS-C tubular daylighting systems were installed as well as an automated dimming system and 21 LED luminaires. This combination ensures that the required desk levels of 400 are maintained at all times with the LED lights or dimming system automatically cutting in as required.
E.ON worked with Solatube and Philips to help replace internal existing lighting with the most appropriate energy efficient alternative as part of their Lighting Programme.

RESULTS: The results were impressive and included 82% energy savings with a reduction in average power usage from 3kW to 540W and carbon savings of more than 30 tonnes over 10 years.
